Shark Apex AZ1001 Vs. Shark Vertex AZ2002 Upright Vacuum (Differences): Shark has very capable upright vacuums, matching Dyson vacuums in power and cleaning ability. Both vacuums provide the suction and powered brushroll to clean carpets of dust, dirt and pet hair. These vacuums can clean carpets or hard floors using DuoClean technology. Both are not lightweight vacuums, but heavy duty, high powered cleaning machines. All Shark uprights are Bagless, where you empty the dust bin into a trashcan, with some of the allergens getting into the air. Both models have a lift-away canister, have motorized pet tools, and have LED headlights.

The main differences between the Shark Shark Apex AZ1002 and Shark Vertex AZ2002 are: The Apex is somewhat quieter with noise reduction technology. The Apex has DuoClean brushrolls (one hard and one soft) for carpets and hard floors. The Vertex has a newer Duoclean Powerfins brushroll for both carpets and hard floors. The Apex and Vertex both come anti hair wrap technology to keep the brushroll clean. The Vertex has a slightly larger dust bin. Both models come with different cleaning tools, but the same powered pet tool. Both models are close in price, but Shark has deemed the Vertex AZ2002 to be its most powerful upright.

Shark Apex

What makes Shark Unique- Main Differences: Shark vacuums use a Lift-Away system, where the vacuum can be lifted off the body. Traditional vacuums like Dyson use a wand +hose off the main body. Shark has LED headlights in most of its higher end uprights. The DuoClean system used on the Vertex and APEX models uses two brushrolls, one is a bristle brush to deep clean carpets, the other is a soft brushroll for larger particles and hard and hardwood floors. Many come with smaller pet tools that have rotating brushes.

Shark Vertex & Apex Powered Pet Tool with anti hair wrap brush.

Bottom Line Shark Apex Vs. Shark Vertex: Both the Shark TruePet Apex AZ2002 and Shark Vertex AZ2002 are both capable and powerful vacuums. Shark calls the Vertex its most powerful upright vacuum, it also has a larger dust bin. Both have the same air powered pet tool, with anti-hair wrap technology.

Both Shark uprights prevent hair from wrapping around the main vacuum brushroll. The Duoclean on the Apex and Vertex is more designed for multi-floor use with its twin brushrolls, The Powerfins is the newest technology on the Vertex. We feel that either vacuum will do a great job, the Vertex having a slight edge in power and dust bin size. The tools that come with each vacuum are different (see below).

Shark Vacuum Glossary of Terms
Lift-Away Canister = Shark vacuums have a detachable canister on their uprights, so that you can vacuum stairs, and other hard to reach areas. The powered brushroll continues to work, even in canister mode.
DuoClean Brushroll = Shark has a new dual brushroll technology that allows for trapping large particles and fine dust. The DuoClean Brushroll will work on both carpets and hard floors. It is available on the new Apex DuoClean AZ1002 and the DuoClean NV803
Zero-M Technology = The newest Shark vacuums have Zero-M, which actively removes hair and threads so they don’t wrap around the brushroll. Zero-M is available on the new Apex DuoClean AZ1002 Vacuum.
HEPA Filter = A HEPA filter is the best type of dirt filtration on a vacuum. This will remove the smallest particles of dirt, dust, and pet hair so that you don’t breathe in what you are vacuuming. This is especially important for those with allergies.

Complete Seal Technology = Shark vacuums have sealed systems to hold in dust, dirt, pet hair, allergens from escaping the vacuum.
