The new 4K Ultra HD 3D TVs will give you 3D that rivals movie theaters. 4K TVs have four times the resolution of Full HD and render 3D better. For 2016 3D TVs are primarily available on 4K Ultra HD TVs. Samsung has discontinued 3D TVs in 2016! Sony and LG have discontinued making 3D TVs in 2017. **As of 2018 all manufacturers have stopped making 3D TVs.

Glossary of Terms
3D Ready TV = A 3D Ready TV is one that is ready to display 3D content and requires 3D active shutter glasses (usually optional).
Passive 3D TV = This type of 3D TV uses polarized glasses (same as the movie theater) for 3D. These glasses do not require batteries, are lighter and much cheaper than active shutter glasses. These type of TVs give decent 3D performance. However they do give lower resolution than those TVs with active shutter glasses. Passive 3D is good compromise between price and quality.
3D Glasses = Current 3D TVs require glasses to see the 3D effect. If you are are watching regular HD programming (cable, blu-ray, satellite, etc.) you don’t need to wear the 3D glasses. Regular programming is also known as 2D (2 dimensional). When looking at 3D programming without glasses, the image looks like a double vision. The 3D glasses bring these images together and give a 3 dimensional look by linking up with your TVs 3D transmitter (built into the TV). The signals sent from the TV tell the glasses left and right lenses to shut and close alternatively. This creates the 3D effect.
LED TV = Instead of a conventional fluorescent backlight, these HDTVs use LED lights for backlighting. This dramatically improves picture contrast, colors, and overall picture. LED TVs also use about 40% less electricity.
Side Lit LED TV = An LED TV that is illuminated from the side by and array of LED lights.
Local Dimming LED TV = An LED TV that is illuminated from the rear by an array of LED lights. These lights can be dimmed or turned off to give maximum contrast and picture quality. This type is superior to a side or edge lit LED TV.
Built-in WiFi = For 2015 more sets have built in WiFi (wireless network) capability. This set does not require a separate wireless adapter to be bought, as it is included on this set. Wifi can connect to your home wireless network and provide your TV with the capability of getting movies and other internet content.
WiFi Ready = This has the same wireless features as the Built-in WiFi, except that you must purchase the WiFi adapter separately.
Edge/Local Dimming = This type of backlight used on Sony and LG sets allows local dimming with LEDs positioned at the side or edge of the TV. Samsung also achieves side-lit local dimming with micro dimming technology.
1080p = (1920×1080) with 2 million pixels resolution (Maximum Blu-ray quality) Most LED TVs are 1080p.
Contrast = refers to dynamic contrast. Higher is better. More contrast allows more shadow details in the picture.
240Hz = 240Hz anti blur technology. Eliminates blur on LCD TVs during high action sports and movies. The latest technology.
120Hz = 120Hz anti blur technology. Eliminates blur on LCD TVs during high action sports and movies.
HDMI = HDMI inputs allow you to connect devices to your HDTV such as DVD and Blu-ray players and game consoles.
Power Consumption = This is how much the TV will consume when operational. This can vary depending on your settings. LED TVs use much less power than other HDTVs such as Plasma.
Dual Core Processor = Several TVs this year have dual core processors (two processors), that can help to speed up the Smart TV operations of that television.
