Proform Treadmills – Glossary of Terms
Folding Treadmill = There are two type of treadmills. Folding and Fixed. A folding treadmills can fold up and roll away to another spot for easy storage. Then there are fixed treadmills, which once assembled usually stay in the same spot and do not fold up. All Proform treadmills are of the folding type.

Motor Horsepower (HP) = Horsepower or HP is a measure of power. All else being equal, a more powerful motor is better as it will strain less under heavy load (and last longer). The heavier you are, the more horsepower you should get. Higher horsepower treadmills will cost more money.

Maximum User Weight = Each treadmill depending on its construction and horsepower of its motor has a maximum user weight limit. So if the limit is 300 lbs, and you are over 300 lbs., you should not buy this treadmill but look for one with a higher weight limit. If you weigh substantially less than the weight limit, this will put a lot less strain on the treadmill motor. For Treadmills under $1000 the maximum weight limit is 300 lbs. If you are heavier, you will have to go to a more expensive model over $1000.

iFit Enabled = iFit is a smart fitness technology available on ProFormĀ® treadmills (monthly fee). When you join iFit, you have access to many training opportunities on your treadmill , including custom-built workouts, and automatic tracking.

Getting Started After Assembly = Some reviewers of Proform treadmills say that after assembly the console screen indicates you have to join ifit to activate the treadmill. But the users say all you have to do is hold the “IFIT SYNC” button for 20 seconds or until it beeps twice to activate the treadmill for use.

Miles per Hour = This signifies the highest speed the treadmill will go when you are running. Serious runners should not get a treadmill that maxes out under 12mph.

Incline Grade = This signifies the number of incline grades that this treadmill is capable of. Incline grades simulate walking or running up a hill.

-3% Quick Decline = The Proform Pro 2000 allows not only an incline, but also decline at a -3% grade, as if you are running downhill.

Heart Monitor = Most treadmills have a heart monitor (grip or clip on type) which allows you to monitor your heart rate to meet heart rate goals for cardiovascular fitness.

Wireless Telemetry = This feature allows you to use a chest heart strap (such as Polar) to report your heart rate wirelessly back to the console.

Running Area = This is the running area or running deck area of the tread of the treadmill. Taller persons with longer strides may want a bigger running area.

Workout Apps = Almost all treadmills have a small computer and display where you can run multiple workout programs that vary the resistance and incline of the treadmill to simulate real walking or running. Examples are programs for the heart, or calorie burn.

LED/LCD Display = The treadmill will have a display to give you information (such as time, calorie burn, distance). They can be either LED lit, or use a backlit LCD screen.

Built-in Fan = Some treadmills have a built-in fan to cool you off during your workout.

Needs Assembly/ Fully Assembled = Most treadmills require some type of assembly after it is delivered. There are a few lightweight treadmills that come fully assembled right out of the box. These treadmills can fold down flat and sometimes fit under a bed.
