Full Frame Imager = This means that the imaging sensor is the same size as 35mm film. 35mm lenses will operate on these DSLRs with the same focal lengths as they do on 35mm film cameras. APS-C Imager = This imager is smaller than a Full Frame imager. Lenses used on SLRs with APS-C imagers have a focal length about 1.6x that of full frame imagers. This means that the telephoto end of the lens will be greater. New digital lenses have been developed for these type of DSLRs. DX Imager = This imager is smaller than a Full Frame imager. Lenses used on DSLRs with DX imagers have a focal length about 1.6x that of full frame imagers. This means that the telephoto end of the lens will be greater. New digital lenses have been developed for these type of SLRs. (About the same size as an APS-C imager). APS-H Imager = This imager is smaller than a Full Frame imager, but larger than a APS-C imager. Lenses used on DSLRs with APS-H imagers have a focal length about 1.3x that of full frame imagers. This means that the telephoto end of the lens will be greater. These cameras can use the new digital lenses designed for APS-C imagers as well as regular lenses. ISO = This refers to how sensitive the image sensor is to the amount of light present. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the image sensor and ability to take pictures in low-light situations. Live View = Allows you to preview your picture on the LCD screen instead of only through the DSLR viewfinder. Burst Mode = This is how many pictures (or frames) can be taken rapid fire per second at maximum resolution. HD Movie Mode = These cameras can operate as an HD camcorder as well as an SLR, recording video in HD. We also list the resolution (1080p and 720p) with the (frames per second) for the HD movie mode. A frame rate of 20fps will be a little choppy. A frame rate of 24 frames/second is the same rate as motion pictures are filmed at. A frame rate of 30 frames/second is standard video rate. 1080p has about twice the resolution of 720p. External Mic Jack = This indicates that an External microphone jack is available. This is important for the best quality sound from your HD Video recording on your DSLR. You can use a wide array of microphones, including wireless, amplified and corded microphones. Exposure Durability = How many pictures can you expect to get over the lifetime of your DSLR camera. TFT LCD = This refers to the LCD screen in the back of the camera. FPS = Frames per second. Normal video is shot at 30 fps. Movies are filmed at 24 fps. Anything less than 24 fps may be choppy. |
