Smart-Review Commentary: For 2010, Sony has introduced its best HDD camcorder. The HDR-XR550V has an enormous 240GB HDD drive. This camcorder has been designed for low light conditions using its large 1/2.88 Exmor CMOS imager. Reviews have confirmed that this camcorder performs well in low light. In addition you can take up to 12 megapixel still images and has been upgraded in 2010 with a much larger 3.5 inch (high resolution) LCD. This camcorder has the latest optical image stabilization technology to remove blurring during handheld use. Also new are dedicated microphone and headphone jacks. Built in GPS can tag your video so you know where you were (exactly) when it was shot. This camcorder also uses the highest possible quality (24mbps) when recording. Another important upgrade for this model is a wide angle lens, important when taking group shots, panoramas, and indoor shots. The new memory card slot can now accomodate SDHC cards as well as Memory Stick Pro Duo cards. Some great upgrades on this new model. This model is one of Smart-Review’s top consumer HDD camcorders for 2010.
