Smart-Review Commentary: For 2009, Sony has made last year’s top rated 120Hz Z-series models even better with the new 2009 240Hz Z-series. We gave high marks to last year’s models for its high consumer ratings, professional ratings, and advanced features. This years model gets our “Top Pick” rating as did last year’s model. New this year is the upgrade from 120Hz to 240Hz. Dynamic contrast has doubled from 50,000:1 to 100,000:1 which will help in displaying shadow detail. Sony has upgraded this HDTV to the Bravia Engine® 3 image processor. Sony has always had superior image processors. This can help with standard definition broadcasts as well as enhance high definition programming. This TV also meets Energy Star 3.0 standards to conserve energy. The main difference between the Sony Z-Series and the XBR9 Series is the wide color gamut cold cathode fluorescent backlight that is in the XBR9 which expands the available colors. Otherwise they are almost identical in features. Both models this year get built-in internet functionality without having to buy add-ons.
