New for 2011. The new Sony HX820 series is Sony’s 2nd generation 46-inch 3D LED backlit TV. This model replaces our top-rated HX800 series. The HX820 series improves upon the exceptional HX800 series. Features include 3D ready capability, Dynamic Edge White LED backlight with local dimming, 24p True Cinema®, the latest Motionflow® XR 480Hz high framerate technology which increases the framerate 8 times for a sharper and smoother image compared to regular 60Hz hdtvs, BRAVIA® Internet Video and Widgets which allows you to view internet content (Netflix, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Skype Ready, and more ) on your internet ready TV through an ethernet cable, or by using the built-in Wifi adapter. 2D to 3D Conversion. 3D content from cable, satellite, games, and Blu-ray disc can be viewed with active shutter 3D glasses. Smart-Review Commentary: For 2011, Sony has improved upon last year’s highly rated HX800 TVs. The new HX820 improvements include a built-in wifi adapter, built-in 3D synch transmitter, Faster start-up, OptiContrast Panel, 480Hz (up from 240Hz), upgrade to Sony’s new X-Reality™ PRO Engine, adding Bravia® Internet Widgets (Facebook, Twitter, Skype and more.) Sony for 2011 has made the HX820 LED panels out of Gorilla Glass. Made by Corning Glass, Gorilla Glass is provides both added strength and scratch resistance to the HX820 Panel making it less likely to get damaged. Like its predecessor, the 46HX820 is 3D ready and can present stunning 3D when viewing 3D content using active shutter 3D glasses. This set is also a top performer on regular HD programming in 2D. The HX820 series has received excellent reviews and we believe this to be one of the top tvs for 2011. The HX820 series has a unique LED backlight system which uses high brightness White Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) around the edges of the screen which can provide local dimming. This provides exceptional color, contrast and unformity, as well as energy savings. As usual, Sony has produced a very striking and stylish set, along with a very strong feature set.
