Smart-Review Commentary: Nikon’s best DX sized imager DSLR is Nikon’s answer to Canon’s 7D. It is fully loaded with all of the newest features. It has received excellent consumer and professional reviews for its price range. It has huge improvements from its predecessor, the D90. Aside from improvements in total megapixels, higher ISO, faster shutter speed, and more powerful AF functions , this camera has also added a Full 1080p HD movie mode with full time autofocus. Fortunately they also provided an external microphone jack to give this camera the potential for excellent sound as well as video. This is one of the first Nikon SLR to have the 1080p movies option. Speed has been increased by the new EXSPEED 2 processor (Burst Rate to 6fps). We believe this to be an excellent high end SLR which will give Canon some competition in this price range. The only downside we see is that the HD movies are limited to 20 minutes per clip (this is double time of the the D3100). For most situations, 20 minutes is more than enough time per clip. (1080p video is at 24 fps). If you want more robust video options, look at the Canon’s 7D , also reviewed on this site. For its price and performance and substantial upgrades from the previous model, the Nikon D7000 DSLR is a Smart Review Top Pick.
